| Remove/install | |||
| 1 | Remove steering column tube module control unit (N80). | AR54.25-P-2802ME | |
| 2 | Unclip and remove cover (1). | ||
| 3 | Remove right trim strip (3) on instrument panel. | AR83.10-P-4509ME | |
| 4 | Remove left trim strip (3) on instrument panel. | ||
| 5 | Unclip and remove cover (5) of steering column tube (2). | Fig 3 | |
| 6 | Remove knee bolster (4). | Note direction of installation. |

| 8 | Remove air duct (6) until the electrical connector of the air outlet temperature sensor of the left footwell vent (B10/35) is accessible. | Fig 2 | |
| 9 | Release and disconnect electrical connector of left footwell vent outlet air temperature sensor (B10/35) and remove air duct (6). | ||
| 10 | Remove screw (7). | ||

| 11 | Pull steering shaft (8) off steering column tube (2). | ||
| 12 | Release and disconnect electrical connectors (9). | Model 167 with code 275 (Memory Package (driver's seat, steering column and mirror)) | |
| 13 | Secure steering column tube (2) to prevent it from falling down. | ||
| 14 | Remove screws (10, 11, 12, 13) in reverse numerical order. | ||

| 15 | Pull steering column tube (2) out of opening in instrument panel and remove. | Model 167 with code 275 (Memory Package (driver's seat, steering column and mirror)) The steering column in/out adjustment motor (M20/1) and the steering column up/down adjustment motor (M20/2) are extremely sensitive to lateral forces and impacts. Do not handle steering column tube (2) at steering column in/out adjustment motor (M20/1) and at steering column up/down adjustment motor (M20/2). Otherwise damage will occur. |

| 16 | Check boot of steering shaft (8) for damage. | In the event of a problem, ↓ Replace boot of steering shaft (8). |

| 18 | Enter new number of steering column tube (2) in online vehicle data card via Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc). | If the steering column tube (2) has been replaced. |
