General 

The multifunction steering wheel (1) is a component of the vehicle's steering. It is used primarily to change the direction of the vehicle. The control elements (2, 3, 4 and 5) on the multifunction steering wheel can also be used to operate a variety of functions.

Function 

Control elements of the instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group (2), of the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group (3) and of the lower multifunction steering wheel button groups (vehicles with AMG steering wheel buttons (AMG DRIVE UNIT)) (4 and 5) are located on the multifunction steering wheel (1). A variety of functions can be operated using the control elements. The description of the individual control elements is given in the detailed information reference documents listed below.

The on-board computer is operated using the cockpit display and is controlled using the finger navigation pad in the instrument cluster multifunction steering wheel button group (2). The multimedia system is operated using the MEDIA display and is controlled using the finger navigation pad in the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group (3). Both finger navigation pads have acoustic operation feedback that can be adjusted in the multimedia system.

Steering wheel electronics are integrated into the multifunction steering wheel (1). This is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle. The steering wheel electronics digitalize the operation signals of the control elements (2, 3, 4 and 5) on the multifunction steering wheel (1) and makes them available to other vehicle systems.
