The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark and cut separating point on cover plate (2) (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components behind can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds at striker plate (2) and cut off (areas B).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on the striker plate (2) and inner wheel well (1) and drill through with a diameter of 6.5 mm (areas C).
- Expose self-piercing rivetings on the striker plate (2) and on the inner wheel well (1) and drill through with a diameter of 6 mm (areas D).
- Expose spot welds on inner wheel well (1) and cut off (areas E).
- Expose spot weld on inner wheel well (1) and drill out through two panel thicknesses with a diameter of 6 mm (area F).
- Heat up striker plate (2) and wheel well (1) in the cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove striker plate (2) and wheel well (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges and plug weld points down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas G).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Grind mating surface down to bare metal in cross-hatched area.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
