The next steps are to be performed on model 167.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side. The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating point on A-pillar inner panel (7) and reinforcement (6) and cut (area A).
Transfer separating points from vehicle.
- Expose spot welds on reinforcement (6) and cut off (areas B1 ).
- Remove reinforcement (6).
- Expose spot welds on the underside of A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut off (area B2 ).
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (7) and drill out with a diameter of 6.5 mm (area C).
- Remove A-pillar inner panel (7) from replacement part.
- Grind mating surfaces on A-pillar inner panel (7) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (D areas).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Grind mating surfaces on reinforcement (6) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Apply zinc dust paint to the inner sides of spot weld flanges (areas E).
- Mark separating point on longitudinal member outer shell (2) and cut (area G).
Transfer separating point from vehicle.
- Grind mating surfaces on longitudinal member outer shell (2) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas F).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Drill holes for plug welds in lower part of A-pillar reinforcement (3) with a diameter of 8 mm (area I).
- Grind mating surfaces on lower part of A-pillar reinforcement (3) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas H).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
- Mark separating point on upper part of A-pillar reinforcement (4) and cut (area J).
Transfer separating point from vehicle.
- Grind mating surfaces on upper part of A-pillar reinforcement (4) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
The bonding surface must not be coated with zinc dust paint (area K).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pre-treatment of bonding surface.
- Mark separating points on A-pillar paneling (1) and cut (areas L, M).
Transfer separating points from vehicle.
- Grind mating surfaces on A-pillar paneling (1) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
Grind mating surfaces on the inner side down to bare metal (area N).
- Remove grinding dust.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area N).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
