The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating point on the outer D-pillar (2) and disconnect (areas A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
b approx. 60 mm
- Expose spot welds on the beltline reinforcement (1) and outer D-pillar (2) and cut out (areas B).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on the beltline reinforcement (1) and outer D-pillar (2) and drill through with a diameter of 6.5 mm (area C).
- Expose spot weld on beltline reinforcement (1) and drill out with a diameter of 6.5 mm through two panel thicknesses (area D).
- Remove beltline reinforcement (1) and outer D-pillar (2).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges and areas for plug welds down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
