Remove/Install Radial Shaft Sealing Ring On Output Flange Of Power Take-Off - AR27.45-P-0021MFA

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove power take-off. Transmission 724.1 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

2 Clean power take-off in area around connecting point of differential side gear housing (1a) and power take-off housing (1b). Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Remove bolts (2).    
4 Detach differential side gear housing (1a) from power take-off housing (1b), remove spacer ring (3) and O-ring (4).    
5 Clamp mount (01) in vise. IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools  Vise
IMPORTANT Use soft vise jaws
SPECIAL TOOL Support

6 Place differential side gear housing (1a) into mount (01) and tighten 4 screws (2) lightly by hand. SPECIAL TOOL Support Fig 1
7 Remove nut (5) and remove output flange (6). IMPORTANT In the SPECIAL TOOL socket wrench set, use the socket wrench and the SPECIAL TOOL connection piece to remove the nut (5)

8 Pry radial shaft sealing ring (7), using suitable tool, out of differential side gear housing (1a). NOTES Carefully remove radial shaft sealing ring (7) and do not damage seat in differential side gear housing (1a). Otherwise leaks may occur.  
9 Clean seat of radial shaft sealing ring (7) in differential side gear housing (1a). Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
10 Check seat of radial shaft sealing ring (7) for damage. If damage is found

replace differential side gear housing (1a).
 
INSTALLING Install     
11 Moisten sealing lip of radial shaft sealing ring (7) with universal hypoid gear oil.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7) IMPORTANT Install a new radial shaft sealing ring (7). BB00.40-P-0235-07A
12 Use drift to press in radial shaft sealing ring (7) far enough, so that the drift makes contact with the differential side gear housing (1a). IMPORTANT The SPECIAL TOOL drift is a two-piece special tool, consisting of 724 589 06 15 01 drift and 724 589 06 15 02 sleeve

The following special tools are required for installing the radial shaft sealing ring (7): From the SPECIAL TOOL drift, 724 589 06 15 01 drift and 724 589 06 15 02 sleeve as well as the SPECIAL TOOL grip
IMPORTANT Transmission 724.1 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 139 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) The following special tools are required for installing the radial shaft sealing ring (7): From the SPECIAL TOOL drift, 724 589 06 15 01 drift and the SPECIAL TOOL grip

13 Position output flange (6) on differential side gear housing (1a).    
14 Attach nut (5). IMPORTANT In the SPECIAL TOOL socket wrench set, use the socket wrench and the SPECIAL TOOL connection piece to mount the nut (5)
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, output flange to power take-off

15 Remove 4 screws (2) from mount (01) and remove differential side gear housing (1a) from mount (01). SPECIAL TOOL Support Fig 1
16 Remove mount (01) from vise. IMPORTANTCommercially available devices/tools

17 Coat O-ring (4) lightly with universal hypoid gear oil.    
REFER TO CAPACITIES & SPECIFICATIONS Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7) IMPORTANT Replace O-ring (4). BB00.40-P-0235-07A
18 Position spacer ring (3) and attach differential side gear housing (1a) to power take-off housing (1b). IMPORTANT Align arrow markings on differential side gear housing (1a), power take-off housing (1b) and molding on spacer ring (3) with each other.  
19 Screw in screw/bolts (2). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, differential side gear housing to power take-off *BA27.10-P-1016-06C 
20 Install power take-off. Transmission 724.1 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
