Remove/Install Air Spring - AR32.22-P-1500FR

Model 257 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL)

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove rear wheel   AR40.10-P-1102A
2 Relieve pressure from air spring (4) using vehicle diagnosis system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
3 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m)    
4 Release fender liner at rear in area of electrical connectors (1) and push to one side   AR88.10-P-1302FR
5 Disconnect electrical connectors (1) and unhook electric lines (2) from holder    
6 Remove pressure line (5) from air spring (4) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 4
7 Remove cover at spring link (6)    
8 Disconnect electrical connector (3) and unhook electric line (8) from holder (9)    
9 Carefully pull air spring (4) downwards by its upper plastic frame until the air spring (4) releases from the retaining clip NOTES
Do not completely compress or extend the air
spring (4).
Otherwise the air spring (4) may be damaged.
IMPORTANT The retaining clip is destroyed when the air spring (4) is removed.
 
10 Remove air spring (4) downwards NOTES
Remove the air spring (4) carefully. Otherwise the protective boot for the air spring (4) may be damaged.
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check condition of air spring (4) NOTES
There must not be any intrusions on the protective boot.
Otherwise the movement of the spring will damage the spring bellows on the inside. If a problem arises
 
  Replace air spring (4).
INSTALLING Install     
12 Replacing retaining clip   AR32.22-P-1500-02FR 
13 Position the air spring (4) with the air spring centering (arrow) onto the spring link (6) NOTES
Do not completely compress or extend the air spring (4).
Otherwise the air spring (4) may be damaged.
 
14 Position air spring (4) on retaining clip and latch into place NOTES
Do not completely compress or extend the air spring (4).
Otherwise the air spring (4) may be damaged.
 
15 Hook electric line (8) onto holder (9) and connect electrical connector (3)    
16 Install cover at spring link (6)    
17 Remove all stop plugs    
18 Mount pressure line (5) to air spring (4) NOTES
The thread on the connection for the pressure line (5) may not be damaged. Otherwise, leaks will occur.
 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to air suspension *BA32.22-P-1006-03I 
SPECIAL TOOL Box wrench bit If the thread is damaged Fig 3
Repair connection for pressure line (5). AR32.22-P-2001-01FR 
SPECIAL TOOL Knife Fig 2
19 Hook electric lines (2) into holder and connect electrical connectors (1)    
20 Install fender liner at rear   AR88.10-P-1302FR
21 Install rear wheel   AR40.10-P-1102A
22 Build up pressure in air spring (4) using vehicle diagnosis system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
    NOTES
Build up pressure in air spring (4) as specified. Otherwise, the air spring (4) may suffer initial damage and malfunction at a later stage.
 
INSPECT Check     
23 Check AIR BODY CONTROL for leak tightness   AR32.22-P-8101FR
