Engine Sound Control Unit, Component Description - GF54.21-P-0019FR
Model 257 (except 257.361) up to model year 2021
with code B63 (Engine sound via speakers) except code 810 (Premium sound system) except code 811 (High-End sound system)
Shown on model 257.3
Location
The engine sound control unit is located at the left in the trunk behind the side trim.
Tasks
As a result of advancements in vehicle insulation, the sound of the engine and exhaust system can no longer be perceived optimally in the vehicle interior, which may have a detrimental affect on the driving experience. In order to optimize the sound of the engine and exhaust system in the vehicle interior, the engine sound control unit enhances the acoustic panorama in the vehicle interior by simulating sound components through the speaker system.
The engine sound control unit receives the following signals:
- Circuit 30t and circuit 31
- Control signals (e.g. engine speed, engine load and vehicle speed) over the drive train CAN (CAN C1) from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (gasoline engine) or from the CDI control unit (N3/9) (diesel engine)
- Analog audio signals over a direct line from the head unit (A26/17)
- CAN signal via the telematics CAN (CAN A) from the head unit to safeguard subnet work operation
The engine sound control unit places synthesized sound signals over the audio signals from the head unit and sends the composite signals over direct lines to the following speaker:
- Left front door midrange speaker (H4/1)
- Right front door midrange speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door midrange speaker (H4/3)
- Right rear door midrange speaker (H4/4)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33)
- Right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left front footwell woofer (right-hand drive vehicles) (H4/42)
- Right front footwell woofer (left-hand drive vehicles) (H4/43)
