WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing Brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with Brake fluid Only pour Brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling Brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A 
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service Brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate Brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the Brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove cover over the Brake fluid expansion reservoir.    
2 Clean area around cap on Brake fluid expansion reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Unscrew cap on Brake fluid expansion reservoir and suction off some Brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir overflowing when the Brake piston is pushed back.  
4 Remove front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
5 Expose electric line of front right brakepad wear sensor and disconnect electrical connector. IMPORTANT Pay attention to the routing of the electric line of the right front brakepad wear sensor.  
6 Drive out pin (2) using punch.    
7 Remove bolt for tie bar (3).    
8 Take out pin for tie bar (6) and remove Retaining spring (5).    
9 Remove brakepads (4).    
10 Pull front right brakepad wear sensor out of backing plate of brakepad (4). When replacing the brakepads (4) or replacing the front right Brake wear sensor.
IMPORTANT Pay attention to the installation location of the right front brakepad wear sensor.
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check pins (2) and Retaining spring (5) for damage and condition. If there is a problem,

replace pins (2) or Retaining spring (5).
 
12 Check condition of soundproofing panels of brakepads (4). If there is a problem,

replace brakepads (4).
IMPORTANT Only sets of brakepads (4) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
13 Check brakepads (4) for wear and condition.

REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 213.061/261 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AP42.10-P-4252E
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 257.361 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AP42.10-P-4252CLS
    If there is a problem,

replace brakepads (4).
IMPORTANT Only sets of brakepads (4) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
14 Check Brake disk for wear and condition. Model 238.361/461 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AR42.10-P-0120LWO
    Model 213.061/261 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AR42.10-P-0120LWG
    Model 257.361 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AR42.10-P-0120FR 
    IMPORTANT Replace Brake disks as a complete set only.
If there is a problem,

Replace Brake disks.

    Model 257.361 4-piston fixed-caliper brake AR42.10-P-0220FR 
15 Check Brake caliper (1) with detachable parts for damage. If there is a problem,

replace corresponding component parts.
 
      AR42.10-P-0070FRB 
16 Press back Brake pistons with pusher tool. IMPORTANT Secure remaining Brake pistons using two
SPECIAL TOOL wedges against slipping out.

If the Brake pistons can only be moved sluggishly,

replace Brake caliper (1).

INSTALLING Install     
17 Clean contact surfaces of brakepads (4) on Brake caliper (1) and on Brake pistons. NOTES
Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects. The Brake caliper (1) or the dust boots of the Brake pistons can otherwise be damaged.
 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
18 Insert front right brakepad wear sensor into backing plate of brakepad (4). When replacing the brakepads (4) or replacing the front right Brake wear sensor.  
19   IMPORTANT Ensure soundproofing panels are in correct installation position.
IMPORTANT Only sets of brakepads (4) approved by Mercedes-Benz may be installed.
 
20 Insert Retaining spring (5) and install pin for tie bar (6). IMPORTANT Make sure that the Retaining spring (5) is seated correctly.  
21 Tighten bolt for tie bar (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Tension rod of Brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1005-10X 
22 Insert pin (2) into Brake caliper (1) and the Retaining spring (5) and pound-in up to the end stops. IMPORTANT Make sure that the Retaining spring (5) is seated correctly.  
23 Connect plug (7) of electrical connector of front right brakepad wear sensor.    
24 Install front wheels.   AR40.10-P-1102A
25 Operate Brake pedal several times until the brakepads (4) make contact with the Brake disks. IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the Brake pedal.  
INSPECT Check     
26 Check and correct Brake fluid level in expansion reservoir.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210B
27 Perform Brake test on test stand.
