WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
WARNING Risk of burn injuries  , suffocation and poisoning when working on the exhaust system and the components connected to it. Risk of suffocation and risk of poisoning caused by inhalation of gaseous and solid components of the exhaust. Risk of poisoning  caused by skin contact with solid components of the exhaust. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses. Use the extraction system. Move people out of the danger zone. AS49.00-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.
AS00.00-Z-0017-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Notice  Notes on avoiding damage through contamination and foreign objects   AH00.00-P-5000-01A
  Notes on automatic transmission   AH27.19-P-0001-01NKB
  Preparatory tasks
1 Remove engine air intake duct (1) upstream of air filter.
2 Remove bottom engine compartment paneling. Transmission 724.0 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M016 (Uprated engine) AR61.20-P-1105MFR
    Transmission 724.0 in model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 except code M016 (Uprated engine) AR61.20-P-1105MFA
3 Check transmission for leak tightness and external damage. If a leakage or external damage is present,

determine and eliminate cause.

4 Carry out an oil change. If an oil change is required.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP27.00-P-2707NK
5 Connect vehicle diagnosis system, read out fault memory and clear if necessary.
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
6 Operate parking brake and start engine. NOTES The transmission must be filled with transmission oil before starting the engine. Otherwise the transmission may be damaged.
INSPECT Check
7 Carry out commissioning of dual-clutch transmission fully integrated transmission control electrohydraulic controller unit (Y3/14) with vehicle diagnosis system.
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT Conduct "Rev up" and "purge" subitems. AD00.00-P-2000-06MFA
8 Warm up engine at idle speed in neutral position. NOTES
During the entire test, do not generate any disturbance variables such as releasing the parking brake, revving up or any other disturbance variables that are not required for the work procedure. Otherwise, these factors lead to the measurement being aborted and a restart of the measurement being required.
IMPORTANT Check the transmission oil level at a transmission oil temperature of 40°C/104°F or 70°C/158°F. A temperature tolerance of ±2°C or ±3.6°F is permissible for the measurement.

9 Call up "Check transmission oil level" function with vehicle diagnosis system. IMPORTANT Before checking the oil level, the engine
must be run for at least 2 minutes in idle speed.
IMPORTANT Run through the following steps in the
vehicle diagnosis system:
Check transmission oil level →
Diagnosis →
Routine →
Start sensor/actuator calibration →
Check transmission oil level A11 →
Start function →
Run →
IMPORTANT In the instrument cluster, an "F" flashes during the oil level check.

10 Release and detach plug (93) from filler pipe (2).
11 Guide dipstick into filler pipe (2) of transmission, check oil level at idle speed and repeat procedure 3 times. NOTES
Use a lint-free cloth to wipe dipstick between measurements.
Measurement errors occur otherwise.

12 Extract or refill transmission oil. If the transmission oil level is too high or too low.
IMPORTANT There are 200 ml to 250 ml of transmission oil between the scale values on the dipstick (interval 5 mm). To increase the oil level in the transmission by 1 mm, add approx. 50 ml of new transmission oil.
IMPORTANT Use new transmission oil only.
Replace funnel filter before adding fluid.
