DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  from engine start by remote start function Prior to starting work, open engine hood, do not reach into rotation range or hazard area of freely rotating parts, wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes AS00.00-Z-0024-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  due to fan starting unexpectedly Do not reach into the rotation or hazard area of the fan. Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes. AS20.40-Z-0001-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.

  Preparatory tasks     
1 Lift vehicle with vehicle lift.    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR00.60-P-1006A
INSPECT Check     
2 Check underfloor paneling for damage from driving over obstacles or from bottoming damage. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools. 
Swiveling inspection mirror with lighting, comparable to inspection mirror Hazet 1977-1
If it is suspected that there is damage from driving over obstacles or bottoming,

Check front axle steering for mechanical damage.
If the front axle steering is mechanically damaged,

replace front axle steering for safety reasons.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
REMOVING Remove     
3 Remove lower engine compartment lining (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 except code M016 (Uprated engine)

4 Remove lower front engine compartment lining (2). Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 139  
INSPECT Check     
5 Check visible systems, component parts, lines and hoses of the drive train on the underfloor for damage, correct routing, fluid loss, correct mounting and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools. 
Swiveling inspection mirror with lighting, comparable to inspection mirror Hazet 1977-1
IMPORTANT Brake system, Spring elements, Shock absorber, Suspension lines and sensors, Steering, Front axle, Front axle shafts with boots, Engine and mounted major assemblies, Cooling system, Heater and A/C system, Exhaust system, Exhaust aftertreatment, Actuator motors of exhaust gas flaps, Heat shields, Rear axle, Fuel system.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
6 Check visible systems, component parts, lines and hoses on the underfloor for damage, correct routing, fluid loss, correct mounting and corrosion. Equipment-dependent.
IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools. 
Swiveling inspection mirror with lighting, comparable to inspection mirror Hazet 1977-1
IMPORTANT External noise sound generator, Hybrid components, Inerting system, Stationary heater, Manual transmission, Clutch operation, Automatic transmission, Transfer case (4MATIC), Rear axle differential (4MATIC), Rear axle shafts with boots (4MATIC). If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
7 Check underfloor and visible component parts on underfloor for damage, routing, mounting and corrosion. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

IMPORTANT Wheel well trim
Underfloor paneling, Underfloor.
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
8 Check visible body panels for corrosion and deformation. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools. 
Swiveling inspection mirror with lighting, comparable to inspection mirror Hazet 1977-1
IMPORTANT Wheel well body panels, Front axle carrier, Rear axle carrier, Chassis steering arms, Underfloor body panels, Body reinforcements.
If problems are determined,

proceed in accordance with the country-specific regulations for mobility and body shell complaints.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
INSTALLING Install     
9 Install lower front engine compartment lining (2). Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 139  
10 Install engine compartment lining at bottom (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 except code M016 (Uprated engine)
