The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating points at side longitudinal member paneling (1) (areas A and B).
Transfer separating points from replacement part (areas A and B).
- Cut separating points at side longitudinal member paneling (1) (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Mark separating point at side longitudinal member paneling (1) below structural foam (area C).
Transfer separation point from replacement part (area C).
- Cut separating point at side longitudinal member paneling (1) below structural foam (area C).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on side longitudinal member paneling (1) (areas E1 , E2 , E3 , E4 , and E5 ).
- Cut off spot welds on side longitudinal member paneling (1) (areas E1
, E2
, E3
, E4
, and E5
).
- Heat side longitudinal member paneling (1) in the cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove side longitudinal member paneling (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not apply any zinc dust paint in bonding areas (areas F1 , F2 ).
