The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage, these steps must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 60 mm
b = approx. 45 mm
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas C).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas D).
- Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area E1
).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas (areas E1
, E2
, E3
).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive material in the area of the outer rear wheel well and detach loose adhesive material.
The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm.
- Repair bare spots in area of outer rear wheel well with primer stick (area F2 ).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on insides.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas F1 and F2 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
