Interior CAN interface 

On the one hand, the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/15) reads in information or CAN signals over the "Interior CAN" interface, which is located on the interior CAN (CAN B). Much of this information is available to the user in the signal pool in the form of PSM signal for parameterization. On the other hand, the PSM control unit sends functional requests to the vehicle such as, e.g. the "Switch on high beam", "Prevent engine start" etc. request over the "Interior CAN" interface.

The control units that receive the respective request from the PSM control unit, decide autonomously how to handle the request.

Options 

The major portion of the signals from the signal pool contain precisely those values or information that the PSM control unit reads in from the relevant CAN signals of the interior CAN.

The internal modules of the PSM control unit such as, e.g. the "Working speed control" module, provide additional values or information that are generally also available in the signal pool in the form of signals for parameterization.

Standard functions (lighting, window lifters, central locking system etc.) are parameterized through the "Interior CAN" module.

The parameterization of special functions (working speed control, speed limit, step etc.) can be conducted with the aid of the "Special functions" menu item.

The following standard functions can be parameterized in the expert coding using the "Interfaces - Interior" menu item:

IMPORTANT To ensure that the PSM control unit sends requests to the interior CAN, the respective module must be switched on through the Interface → Interior CAN bus → Activation menu.

Example: To enable the PSM control unit to send the "Switch on high beam" request to the interior CAN, the "Exterior lighting" module must be activated.

The individual menu items are as follows:

"Activation" 

This menu item is used for activation of the required modules such as, e.g. "Exterior lighting", "Alarm", "Sliding door" etc.

"Exterior lighting" 

The "Exterior lighting" menu item contains the parameterization options for activation of typical exterior light functions, e.g.:

IMPORTANT "Properties" can be used to parameterize the module properties. It is advisable to change only those properties that are directly linked to the requested function.

"Alarm" 

The "Alarm" menu item contains the parameterization options for alarm functions in the event of an alarm issued by the anti-theft alarm system (ATA).

IMPORTANT The parameterization options for the alarm functions of emergency vehicles (e.g. alternate flashing of headlamps) are located in the SAM control unit (N10).

"Sliding door" 

The "Sliding door" menu items contains the parameterization options for the sliding door functions.

"Front window" 

The "Front window" menu item contains the parameterization options for the "Actuation of left or right window lifter".

"Central locking system" 

The "Central locking system" menu item contains the parameterization options for the "Lock or unlock vehicle" functions.

"Windshield wiper" 

The "Windshield wiper" menu item contains the parameterization options for the windshield wiper functions.

"ESP system fallback" 

The "ESP system fallback" menu item contains the parameterization options for the "Reduction of ESP® sensitivity" function.

IMPORTANT ESP® currently only supports stages 0 and 3:

Stage 0: ESP® is active (no system fallback).

Stage 3: ESP® is completely deactivated (for rail vehicles).

"Other functions" 

The "Other functions" menu item contains the parameterization options for functions that cannot be assigned to previous categories, e.g.:

IMPORTANT: The ECO start/stop function may only be temporarily deactivated and in certain exceptional circumstances, e.g. for emergency vehicles in route to the application location with an activated signaling system. Permanent deactivation of the ECO start/stop function is not permissible, as - in this instance - the limits for the vehicle exhaust could not then be maintained and this in turn would terminate the vehicle's operating permit.

For all queries pertaining to deactivation of the ECO start/stop function, the customer can contact his/her local Mercedes-Benz sales and marketing company or the body manufacturer support.

"Direct sending of CAN messages" 

The "Direct sending of CAN messages" menu item contains the parameterization options for activating the "headlamp flashers" and "special signaling system" functions for emergency vehicles as well as the "external engine start" function.

IMPORTANT: If the value changes from "0" to "1" at the parameterized input, the relevant CAN message is immediately sent as a function request to the interior CAN. If the switch-on conditions have to be checked before activating the function, the user must ensure this happens by means of suitable logic circuits. Furthermore, the user must withdraw the function request himself.

Example "External engine start":

If the switch-on conditions such as "Neutral position of transmission", "Parking brake OPERATED" or similar are to be checked, the user must change this using a suitable logic circuit in the "Storable control" module. The user must also withdraw the request for external engine start again as soon as the engine is running.
