Functional Scope Of Engine, PSM, Function - GF54.21-D-3007TSC

Model 907

with code ED5 (Parameterisable special module)

Power take-off

Engine functions

The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit enables functions in the engine control unit to be influenced.

The parameterizable power take-off function module is implemented, which guarantees correct operation of the engine control unit.

Power take-off function

The power take-off function on vehicles with power take-off is used to control activation of the power take-off.

To prevent damage to the transmission, various conditions can be queried.

Power take-off

Power take-off function

The power take-off (PTO) module enables a device driven by the engine to be connected or disconnected from the main transmission as and when required. The PSM control unit controls the solenoid valve here for the power take-off, which triggers the hydraulic activation of the power take-off.

In the power take-off, the following input conditions can be influenced for internal function enabling:

If all set conditions are met, the "Request for power take-off over an input function" input or the "Request for a power take-off over the body manufacturer CAN function" input of the "power take-off" module, the power take-off solenoid valve can be activated.

The menu item "Special functions Power take-off, input" can be used to parameterize the internal inputs for the power take-off (PTO) module.

Request for function "Power take-off" via an input

Request for activation of power take-off. Activation of the power take-off takes place when all of the set conditions are fulfilled.

If the parameter "Activation of power take-off despite unfulfilled switch-on conditions" is set to "YES" in the power take-off (PTO) module, the user can override an unfulfilled condition by pressing the push button switch several times.

In this case, a fault entry (B) is made. If the user presses the pushbutton only once, the power take-off is not activated and only an event entry (B182D9A) is made. The fault freeze frame data of the event (B182D9A) indicates which requirements were not fulfilled at the time of the request. The information as to which switch-on requirement was overruled by the user can be found in the actual values.

Parameterization possibilities:

Request for "Power take-off" function over body manufacturer CAN

Request over body manufacturer CAN for activation of power take-off.

Setting of the fault code (B182D9A). The fault freeze frame data of the event (B182D9A) indicates which requirements were not fulfilled at the time of the request. The information can be found in the actual values.

Parameterization possibilities:

Requirement for enabling power take-off: Transmission in neutral position, with transmission 722.9

IMPORTANT The availability of the signal depends on the vehicle equipment.

Activation input (bit signal) as condition for power take-off.

Parameterization possibilities:

Requirement for enabling power take-off: Freely parameterizable CAN signal

Activation input as condition for power take-off.

The procedure is as follows:

Parameterization possibilities:

Further parameters for freely parameterizable CAN signal "Power take-off"

These must be parameterized in the module:

Feedback from power take-off

Input to which the power take-off feedback is connected.

Parameterization possibilities:

IMPORTANT If you wish to evaluate feedback through the PSM control unit, you have to set the parameter "Power take-off feedback to be evaluated" to "YES" in the power take-off (PTO) module.

The module can be parameterized via the menu item "Special functions → Engine start and engine stop, properties".

Function "Power take-off"

The "Power take-off" module can be activated and deactivated with this parameter.

Requirement for enabling of power take-off: Parking brake

This parameter can be used to activate or deactivate the "Parking brake OPERATED" requirement.

Requirement for enabling of power take-off: Engine at idle

This parameter can be used to activate or deactivate the "Engine in idle" requirement.

Requirement for enabling of power take-off: Clutch

IMPORTANT The availability of the signal "Clutch pedal FULLY DEPRESSED" depends on the vehicle equipment.

IMPORTANT This query cannot be deactivated, as otherwise the power take-off may be damaged. You can only choose between "Clutch pedal DEPRESSED" and "Clutch pedal FULLY DEPRESSED".

The switch "Clutch pedal FULLY DEPRESSED" is installed on vehicles with at least one of the following:

Limitation of type-tested maximum speed over "Power take-off" function

When the power take-off is switched on, the design-dependent maximum speed of the vehicle can be limited here. Speeds of 1 km/h to 255 km/h can be parameterized.

Activation of power take-off despite unfulfilled switch-on conditions

If this option is set, an unfulfilled condition for the power take-off can be overridden by resetting or setting the power take-off request. The fault freeze frame data of the event (B182D9A) indicates which requirements were not fulfilled at the time of the request. The information can be found in the actual values. If this option is not set, the power take-off solenoid valve can only be actuated once all conditions are fulfilled and the power take-off request can then be subsequently set.

Speed limit for deactivation of power take-off

The current vehicle speed is compared with the parameter "Vehicle speed limit for power take-off shutoff" and the result of this comparison is used as the input signal for deactivation of the power take-off.

If the parameter "Vehicle speed limit for deactivation of power take-off" is set to 255, checking of the vehicle speed is deactivated in the power take-off (PTO) function module.

Limitation of maximum engine speed via "Power take-off" function

This RPM limitation is issued if the power take-off is active.

For technical reasons, the parameter can only be adjusted in a range of 1200 to 2500 RPM.

Clutch waiting time

The clutch status must be "Clutch depressed or fully depressed" for a period of 5 s in order for this condition to be regarded as fulfilled in the solenoid valve actuation (MVA) module.

For technical reasons, this parameter is permanently stored in the PSM control unit. No settings can be made here.

Signals from "Power take-off" function hat are stored in the signal pool

Request for working speed control (module "Power take-off")

This bit signal is used as a request signal for working speed control. It is set in the power take-off (PTO) module.

This signal is set when the inputs of the power take-off (PTO) module are valid and one of the power take-off requests (input, body manufacturer CAN) is active.

Actuate solenoid valve for power take-off (module "Power take-off")

This bit signal is used as the request signal for actuation of the power take-off solenoid valve. It is set in the power take-off (PTO) module.

This signal is set when the inputs of the power take-off (PTO) module are valid and one of the power take-off requests (input, body manufacturer CAN) is active.

IMPORTANT If you want to implement actuation of the power take-off through the PSM control unit, you must set the "Actuation of solenoid valve through PSM control unit" parameter to "YES" in the module and send the signal 0x1241 (Power take-off engaged) to one of the discrete outputs of the PSM control unit.
