Install Rear Fender - Ar63.50-P-1400-04LCA

The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Install rear fender (1) and fit.
- Install rear bumper and fit.
- Install trunk lid and fit.
- Install and fit tail lamp.
- Install seal and fit.
- Install lock striker and fit.
- Check gaps using
feeler gauge and adjust.
- Fix rear fender (1) in place.
- Remove striker eye.
- Remove seal.
- Remove taillamp.
- Remove trunk lid.
- Remove rear bumper.
- Drill rivet holes in the rear fender (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A1
, A5
).
Drill rivet holes from inside through present holes in body (area A5).
- Drill rivet holes in the rear fender (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A2
, A3
, A4
).
Only if a riveter for punching and flow form rivets is not used for installation.
Transfer position of the existing holes in the body to the new part (areas A1 A3 , A4 ).
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.
- Attach suitable spacers to the rear outer wheel well at uniform intervals (area N).
- Apply sealing compound to rear outer wheel well and foam part (areas N, K3 , K4 ).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to the body (areas K1
, K2
, K5
, K6
, K7
, K8
).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Apply Teroson MS 222 lining adhesive to body in crosshatched area.
Right side of vehicle.
Observe processing specifications of adhesive.
- Install rear fender (1), fit and fix in place.
- Rivet rear fender (1) with rivets with a diameter of 6.4 x 12 (areas C1
, C2
, C3
, C4
, C5
).
Flow form rivet structure up to 3.5 mm clamping range (S1) can also be used if a riveter is used for punching and flow form rivets for installation (areas C2 , C3 , C4 , C5 ).

(areas D1 , D2 , D3 , D4 , D5 , D6 ).
Arrest transitions at crimped edge for seals with vise grip pliers until the 2-component adhesive has cured.

Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

(area F1 ).
Perform inert gas welds as stitch weld.
- Surface grind inert gas weld joints (areas F1 , E2 ).
- Solder surface on rear fender (1) with body solder and smooth (area E2
).
A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.
