Install Rear Fender - Ar63.50-P-1400-04LC

IMPORTANT The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.

The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Install rear fender (1) and fit.
  2. Install rear bumper and fit.
  3. Install trunk lid and fit.
  4. Install and fit tail lamp.
  5. Install seal and fit.
  6. Install lock striker and fit.
  7. Check gaps using SPECIAL TOOL feeler gauge and adjust.
  8. Fix rear fender (1) in place.
  9. Remove striker eye.
  10. Remove seal.
  11. Remove taillamp.
  12. Remove trunk lid.
  13. Remove rear bumper.
  14. Drill rivet holes on rear fender (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A1 , A5 , A7 ).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes from inside through present holes in body (area A5).

  15. Drill rivet holes on the rear fender (1) with a diameter of 6.7 mm (areas A2 , A3 , A4 , A6 ).

    Only if a riveter for punching and flow form rivets is not used for installation.

    IMPORTANT Transfer position of the available holes in the body to the new part (areas A2 , A3 , A4 ).

  16. Countersink rivet holes on rear fender (1) (area A6 ).
  17. Remove rear fender (1).
  18. Deburr rivet holes on rear fender (1) and body on both sides.
  19. Remove drilling chips.
  20. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

  21. Attach suitable spacer to the rear outer wheel well at uniform intervals (area N).
  22. Apply sealant to the rear outer wheel well and foam part (areas N, J7 ).
  23. Apply 2-component adhesive to the body (areas J1 , J2 , J3 , J4 , J5 , J6 ).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  24. Apply Teroson MS 222 lining adhesive to body in crosshatched area.

    Right side of vehicle.

    IMPORTANT Observe processing specifications of adhesive.

  25. Install rear fender (1), fit and fix in place.
  26. Rivet rear fender (1) with rivet with a diameter of 6.4 x 12 (areas C1 , C3 , C4 , C 5 , C6 , C7 ).

    IMPORTANT Flow form rivets with structure up to 3.5 mm clamping range (S1) can also be used if a riveter is used for punching and flow form rivets for installation (areas C3 , C 4 , C5 , C 6 ).

  27. Rivet rear fender (1) with countersunk head blind rivet with a diameter of 6.4 x 14 (area C2 ).

    IMPORTANT Flow form rivets with structure up to 3.5 mm clamping range (S1) can also be used if a riveter for punching and flow form rivets is used for installation.

  28. Rear fender (1) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas D1 , D2 , D 3 , D4 , D5 , D6 ).

    IMPORTANT Arrest transitions at crimped edge for seals with vise grip pliers until the 2-component adhesive has cured.

  29. Rear fender (1) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas E1 , E2 ).

    IMPORTANT Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.

  30. Surface grind inert gas welds (areas E1 , E 2 ).
  31. Solder surfaces on the rear fender (1) with a body solder and smooth (areas E1 , E2 ).

    IMPORTANT A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.
