The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 930 mm
Separation point (area A) can be selected freely according to damage in consideration of foam parts and structural foam parts.
Place separation point (B) on weld seam to crossmember above rear end.
- Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area C).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Drill clinch connections on rear fender (1) with Ø 6 mm (areas D).
The clinch connections can also be separated with a riveter for self-piercing and flow-form rivets.
- Drill self-piercing riveting on rear fender (1) with Ø 6 mm (area D1 ).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas F1
, F2
, F3
, F4
, F5
and E).
Cut out weld spots through two sheet metal thicknesses (area F2).
- Expose self-piercing riveting on rear fender (1) with Ø 6 mm (area G).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas H and I).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (area I3
).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas I1
, I 2
).
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched area.
Right side of vehicle.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area N).
- Remove loose remaining adhesive material.
A maximum of 2 mm of adhesive may be left.
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Repair bare parts with touchup applicator.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas K5 , K6 , K 7 and K8 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
