The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 930 mm
b1 = approx. 90 mm
b2 = approx. 480 mm
If connections are to be offset in area B, observe overlapping of approx. 10 mm.
Separation point can be selected freely according to damage in consideration of foam parts and structural foam parts (area B).
- Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area C).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Drill clinch connections on rear fender (1) with Ø 6 mm (area D).
The clinch connections can also be separated with a riveter for self-piercing and flow-form rivets.
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas F1
, F2
, F 3
, F4
, F5
and E).
Cut out weld spots through two sheet metal thicknesses (area F2 ).
- Expose rivet on rear fender (1) and drill out (area F6
).
- Expose self-piercing riveting on rear longitudinal member (1) and drill with Ø 6 mm (area G).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (area H).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (area I).
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Heat rear fender (1) in crosshatched area.
Remove rear fender (1).
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Right side of vehicle.
- Remove remaining adhesive material in area of outer rear wheel well (area N).
- Remove loose remaining adhesive material.
A maximum of 2 mm of adhesive may be left.
- Repair bare parts with touchup applicator.
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas J1 , J2 , J3 , J 4 , J5 , and J6 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
