REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove corresponding rear wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
2 Reduce pneumatic pressure of suspension struts (9) using diagnostic system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   NOTES
The complete wheels must not touch the ground. Otherwise the suspension struts (9) can be damaged and subsequently malfunction.

3 Empty hydraulic lines (7) of electrohydraulic suspension using guided diagnosis. NOTES The complete wheels must not touch the ground. Otherwise the suspension struts (9) can be damaged and subsequently malfunction.
IMPORTANT It is essential for the shutoff valves on the suspension strut (9) to be closed.

4 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
5 Unclip speaker cover from rear shelf (1). SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 2
6 Remove mid-range speaker. Model 223

with code 810 (Premium sound system)

7 Remove cover above damping (2).    
8 Separate perforation (arrows A) on rear shelf (1) and remove sections.    
9 Detach perforation (arrows B) and remove damping (2). INSTALLATION NOTES :
The damping (2) must always be installed. Otherwise, noise will be heard.
 
10 Detach pressure line (3) from suspension strut (9) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to rear suspension strut/valve block *BA32.22-P-1011-03F 
    SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 4

11 Remove cover from spring link (5).    
12 Disconnect electrical connectors (6) and expose electric lines.    
13 Clean connections of hydraulic lines (7). IMPORTANT Do not use any cleaning agents or solvents.  
14 Remove hydraulic lines (7) from suspension strut (9) and seal openings with suitable stop plugs. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : Install new seals.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, hydraulic line to suspension strut

15 Loosen threaded connection securing spring link (5) to rear axle carrier (8). IMPORTANT Do not remove the spring link (5) from the rear axle carrier (8).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Spring control arm to rear axle carrier

16 Remove suspension strut (9) from spring link (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut at rear to spring control arm *BA32.25-P-1005-04O 
17 Remove spring link (5) from wheel carrier (10). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Spring control arm to wheel carrier *BA35.20-P-1001-01J 
18 Fold spring link (5) downward. NOTES
Fold the spring link (5) downward carefully.
Otherwise the wheel carrier (10) will be damaged.
 
19 Lower vehicle. NOTES
Do not lower vehicle too far.
Otherwise the folded-down spring link (5) will be
damaged.
 
20 Remove nuts (4) and take out suspension strut (9) in downward direction. IMPORTANT Helper required.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/nut, suspension strut at rear to body

INSPECT Check     
21 Check suspension strut (9).    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace suspension strut (9).

22 Check pressure line (3) for damage. If there is a problem,

repair pressure line connection.

23 Install in the reverse order.
