Check Condition Of Steering And Rear Axle Tie Rods - AP46.00-P-4654S

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
  Preparatory activity     
1 Unlock steering lock.    
REMOVING Remove     
2 Remove rear underfloor paneling (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR61.30-P-1001S
INSPECT Check     
3 Check tie rod joint boots (7) of tie rod ends (3) for condition, leak tightness and correct seating. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools. 
Swiveling inspection mirror with lighting, comparable to inspection mirror Hazet 1977-1
If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
4 Check tie rod joints (2) for play by firmly pulling and pushing the tie rod ends (3). If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
5 Check tie rod ends (3) and tie rods (4) for firm connection by pulling and pushing each one. If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
6 Check each inner tie rod joint for play by firmly pulling and pushing on tie rods (4) in direction of steering gear (8). If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
7 Stretch rear boots (5) by turning steering wheel all the way to right and left, and check for cracks, indentations and chafe marks. NOTES Do not check the boots (5) by pressing in or around the raised bead.
Otherwise, the material may be damaged, leading to fluid loss with consequential damage.
IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
8 Check clamps (6) are firmly and correctly seated. NOTES Clamps (6) may not be damaged, loose or incorrectly seated.
Otherwise, this may lead to fluid loss with consequential damage.
IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
9 Check steering gear (8). IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

Replace steering for safety reasons.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
10 Check rear axle steering actuator motor (9) for external damage. IMPORTANTIf necessary, use commercially available devices/tools.

If problems are determined,

Replace steering for safety reasons.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
INSTALLING Install     
11 Install rear underfloor paneling (1).    
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR     AR61.30-P-1001S
