The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Depending on the damage, mark separating points on longitudinal member paneling (1) and cut (areas A, B), (areas A, C, D) or (areas B, C, D).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 110 mm
b = approx. 85 mm
c = approx. 70 mm
d = approx. 90 mm
The next steps are shown on the most comprehensive repair job.
- Remove screws at longitudinal member paneling (1) (area E).
- Press out self-pierce rivets at longitudinal member paneling (1) using rivet press tool (areas F).
- Drill off self-pierce rivet at longitudinal member paneling (1) with Ø 6 mm (area G).
- Heat longitudinal member paneling (1) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove longitudinal member paneling (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on both sides (areas J).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas H).
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
