Rear Fender Complete Removal - Ar63.50-P-1401-01S

Model 223.0/1 

except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) 

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating points on rear fender (1) (areas A, B).

    IMPORTANT Mark separating point along the Y-markings (area A).

    To replace the C-pillar, mark separating point at approx. 60 mm above the Y-markings (area A).

    Transfer separation point from replacement part (area B).

  2. Cut separating points on rear fender (1) (areas A, B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  3. Cut adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area F).

    IMPORTANT The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).

  4. Press out self-pierce rivets at rear fender (1) using rivet press tool (areas C1 ).
  5. Remove screws at rear fender (1) (area D).
  6. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas E).
  7. Cut off spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas E).

  8. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas G).
  9. Cut off spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas G).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  10. Drill through clinch connections at rear fender (1) with ø 6 mm (areas H).
  11. Press out self-pierce rivets at rear fender (1) using rivet press tool (areas J).

  12. Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  13. Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  14. Remove rear fender (1).

  15. Remove residual adhesive material (area L).

    IMPORTANT The height of the residual adhesive should be max. 2 mm. Always remove loose adhesive material.

  16. Repair bare spots with primer stick (area L).
  17. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on both sides (areas K).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  18. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
