Outer A-Pillar Paneling Removal - Ar63.20-P-1223-01S

MODIFICATION NOTES

17.03.2023 Expose screws, added. Operation step 2  

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on model 223.1 on the left side of the vehicle and must be similarly performed on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating points on A-pillar paneling (1) and cut (areas A, B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANTDimensions: 

    a = approx. 90 mm

    b = approx. 10 mm

  2. Expose screws on A-pillar paneling (1) and unscrew (area C).
  3. Drill out self-piercing rivets in A-pillar paneling (1) with Ø 6 mm (areas D).
  4. Press out self-piercing rivets in A-pillar paneling (1) with rivet press tool (areas E).
  5. Expose spot welds at A-pillar paneling (1) and cut off (areas F).
  6. Expose laser seams on A-pillar paneling (1) and separate (area G).
  7. Bend open sheet metal lug in direction of arrow.
  8. Heat A-pillar paneling (1) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  9. Remove A-pillar paneling (1).

  10. Remove adhesive residues in the area of the foam parts (2).

    IMPORTANT Damaged foam parts (2) must be replaced.

  11. Grind remnants of the laser seams flat (area J).
  12. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on both sides (areas K).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas H, J).

  13. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
