Windshield CROSSMEMBER Removal - Ar62.25-P-1120-01S

Model 223.0/1/9 

IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on model 223.1.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Expose screws on crossmember (1) and remove (areas A).
  2. Expose self-piercing rivets on crossmember (1) and drill off with a Ø 6 mm bit (areas B).

    IMPORTANT The following operation steps, 3 to 8, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  3. Mark separating point on lower mounting support (3) and separate (area C).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  4. Expose weld seams on crossmember (1) and upper mounting support (2) and separate (areas D, E).
  5. Expose screws on upper mounting support (2) and remove (area F).
  6. Expose spot welds on lower mounting support (3) and cut off (areas G).
  7. Remove screws (4, 5).
  8. Remove upper mounting support (2).

  9. Heat crossmember (1) in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  10. Remove crossmember (1) with lower mounting supports.

  11. Grind mating surface down to bare metal in cross-hatched area.

    IMPORTANT Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.

  12. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.

    IMPORTANT The next steps 13 and 14 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.

  13. Face-grind remaining weld seam (area H).
  14. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas I).
