MODIFICATION NOTES

14.03.2023 Remove brake hose (6). Operation step 11.  
14.03.2023 Replace brake hose (6).
Always replace brake hose (6) after removal.

DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Remove cover over brake fluid reservoir. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install after bleeding the brake system.  
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
3 Remove cap of brake fluid reservoir and suction off some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the brake fluid reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.  
4 Move brake linings (9) on rear axle into assembly position. NOTES
Do not operate the service brake while "Move to assembly position" is shown.
Otherwise the spindle in the brake caliper (1) will be damaged.
IMPORTANT The hood must be closed.

5 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
6 Remove corresponding rear wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
7 Unhook electric line (2) from holder. When removing brake caliper (1) on right.  
8 Disconnect electrical plug (3) from brake pad wear sensor coupling housing (4). When removing brake caliper (1) on right.  
9 Unscrew screw (5) and hang brake pad wear sensor coupling housing (4) to one side. When removing brake caliper (1) on right.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, brake wear sensor to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1003-12Y 
10 Release and disconnect electrical connector at left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) or at right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2).    
11 Remove brake hose (6). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace brake hose (6). Always replace brake hose (6) after removal. AR42.10-P-0023S 
12 Remove screws (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Guide pin to brake caliper support or bolt for guide pin to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1004-12Y 
13 Remove brake caliper (1) from brake caliper support (11). INSTALLATION NOTES
The new brake caliper (1) is shipped in prefilled condition and it may not be drained.
Otherwise the brake caliper (1) cannot be vented.
 
INSPECT Check     
14 Check brake caliper (1) and dust boot on brake piston for leak tightness and damage. If there is a problem,

replace brake caliper (1).
 
15 Check guide pins (12) for damage and ease of movement. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper support (11).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, brake caliper/brake caliper support to wheel carrier *BA42.10-P-1001-12Y 
16 Remove brake linings (9) and check for wear and condition.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake linings (9).

17.1 Check brake disk (10) for wear and condition. Model 223
except code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system)
 
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If there is a problem,

replace brake disks (10).

17.2 Check brake disk (10) for wear and condition. Model 223
with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system)
 
    If there is a problem,

replace corresponding brake disk (10).

18 Check brake caliper support (11) for damage. If there is a problem,

Replace brake caliper support (11).
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, brake caliper/brake caliper support to wheel carrier *BA42.10-P-1001-12Y 
19 Install in the reverse order.    
20 Bleed brake system.   AR42.10-P-0010S 
21 Operate brake pedal several times until brake linings (9) make contact with brake disks (10). IMPORTANT Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
22 Perform brake test on brake test stand.
