The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.1 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also prescribes the direction in which the rivets must be set.

1. Install longitudinal member reinforcement (1), fit, and fix in place.
2. Drill rivet holes in longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A, B).
3. Drill rivet holes in longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with Ø 6.7 mm through existing holes in the body (area C).
4. Countersink rivet holes in longitudinal member reinforcement (1) (area B).
5. Remove longitudinal member reinforcement (1).
6. Deburr rivet holes in longitudinal member reinforcement (1) and in the body on both sides.
7. Remove drill chips.

8. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.

   Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

9. Install longitudinal member reinforcement (1) and fix in place.
10. Rivet longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas Y₂ ).
11. Rivet longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with rivet Ø 6.5x14.5 (area Y₃ ).
12. Rivet longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with Ø 6.4x15.5 countersunk-head rivets (areas Z₂ ).
13. Rivet longitudinal member reinforcement (1) with Ø 6.4x17.0 countersunk-head rivets (areas Z₃ ).
