Location
The left headlamp control unit is located on the left front lamp unit and the right headlamp control unit is located on the right front lamp unit.
The headlamp control units are tightly screwed to the housing of the respective front lamp units. The headlamp control units are connected to the wiring harness on the vehicle side via the respective front lamp unit.
Task
The headlamp control units work in a master/slave combination and communicate with each other via the periphery CAN (CAN PER). As the master, the left headlamp control unit synchronizes the right headlamp control unit.
The headlamp control units have the following tasks:
- Read in sensors and signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling functions
- Actuation of components
Read in sensors and signals

LIN (in headlamp) (with code 640 (SAE dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic) or code 641 (dynamic LED headlamp for left-hand traffic) or code 642 (dynamic LED headlamp for right-hand traffic))
The following information is read in by the left headlamp control unit via left headlamp LIN (LIN G1):
- Diagnostic data from the left front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E1n7)
The following information is read in by the right headlamp control unit via right headlamp LIN (LIN G2):
- Diagnostic data from the right front actuation module, LED exterior lighting (E2n7)
Peripherals CAN
The signals are read in by the headlamp control units via the periphery CAN.
The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
