Test Brake System With Pressure Tester For Leaks - AR42.10-P-0015CW

CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

INSPECT Check     
1 Deactivate easy entry and exit feature for steering wheel Model 172, 204, 222, 231 with code 275 (Memory Package (driver's seat, steering column and mirror))

2 Open engine hood and raise to vertical position Model 172, 204, 217, 222, 231

3 Clean area around cap on brake fluid expansion reservoir (1)    
4 Unscrew cap for brake fluid expansion reservoir (1)    
5 Connect filler/bleeder unit to brake fluid expansion reservoir (1)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 01 82 00 Filling unit IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions. WS25.00-P-0016B
6 Remove the bleed screw on the left front brake caliper (2) and connect pressure tester (3)    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 07 21 00 Test equipment NOTES Pressure testers (3) for hydraulic fluid systems must not be used for systems with brake fluid.
Otherwise, the brake fluid will be mixed with mineral oil, which can cause brake failure.
NOTES
Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.
Otherwise, measurement errors may arise due to incorrect operation.

7 Bleed pressure tester (3)    
8 Switch off filling and bleeding unit and vent pressure    
HIGH PRESSURE TEST Measure using pointer device     
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
9 Allow the engine to run at moderate speed and release the accelerator pedal suddenly IMPORTANT In order to produce the highest possible vacuum in the BAS brake booster (A7/7).  
10 Immediately press down brake pedal as far as possible and insert brake pedal jack (010) with adapter between brake pedal and driver seat NOTES Cover brake pedal and driver seat in contact area of brake pedal jack and adapter.
Otherwise the brake pedal or the driver seat may be damaged.

11 Read off and note brake pressure on high-pressure gauge of pressure tester (3)    
12 Read off and note brake pressure again after 5 minutes on the high-pressure gauge of pressure tester (3) IMPORTANT During the 5 min. duration of the test, the brake pressure may not drop more than 5 %.  
HIGH PRESSURE TEST Measure using pointer device     
13 Switch off engine and remove brake pedal jack (010) with adapter    
14 Push down brake pedal several times IMPORTANT In order to reduce the vacuum in the BAS brake booster (A7/7).  
15 Press down brake pedal as far as possible and insert brake pedal jack (010) with adapter between brake pedal and driver seat NOTES Cover brake pedal and driver seat in contact area of brake pedal jack and adapter.
Otherwise the brake pedal or the driver seat may be damaged.

16 Slowly turn back brake pedal jack (010) until the low-pressure gauge on the pressure tester (3) displays a brake pressure of approx. 3 bar    
17 Read off and note the brake pressure after 2 minutes on the low pressure gauge of pressure tester (3) IMPORTANT The brake pressure must not drop during the 2 min. duration of the test.  
18 Remove brake pedal jack (010) and adapter    
19 Connect pressure tester (3) to brake caliper (2) and screw bleed screw all the way into brake caliper (2)

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Model 172, 204, 217, 222, 231 Bleed screw to brake caliper *BA42.10-P-1002-12J 
21 Disconnect filler/bleeder unit from brake fluid expansion reservoir (1) IMPORTANT Pay attention to manufacturer's operating instructions.  
22 Brake system - inspect fluid level

23 Screw on cap for brake fluid expansion reservoir (1) and tighten
