Electric Parking Brake Control Unit, Component Description - GF42.20-P-5005LF
Model 217
Model 222
up to model year 2018
Shown on model 222
Location
The electric parking brake control unit is located at the left in the trunk behind the partition wall to the vehicle interior.
Tasks
The electric parking brake control unit has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in over the following connections:
- Direct line
- Periphery CAN (CAN PER)
Direct line
The signals from the following component are read in via direct lines:
- Status of electric parking brake switch (S76/15)
Peripherals CAN
The following information is read in via the peripherals CAN:
- Status circuit 15 ON, from the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)
- Status of driver seat belt buckle switch (S68/3), from Supplemental Restraint System control unit (N2/10), over the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) and the electronic ignition lock control unit
- Status of trunk lid lock main detent switch (A85/5s1) from rear SAM control unit, over the interior CAN (CAN B) and the electronic ignition lock control unit
- Status of left front door first detent microswitch (A85s1), from left front door control unit (N69/1), via interior CAN to electronic ignition lock control unit
- Currently engaged drive range from fully integrated transmission control unit (Y3/8n4), drivetrain operational status, engine running and accelerator pedal position from ME-SFI control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine) or from CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) via powertrain CAN and powertrain control unit (N127)
- Wheel speeds for determining the vehicle speed, from the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) over the chassis FlexRay (Flex E) and the electronic ignition lock control unit
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Peripherals CAN
Direct line
The electric parking brake control unit actuates the left electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/1) and the right electric parking brake actuator motor (M76/2) via a direct line.
Peripherals CAN
The following components are actuated over the periphery CAN:
- Electronic Stability Program control unit (introduction of emergency braking) over the electronic ignition lock control unit and chassis FlexRay
- Instrument cluster (A1) (display of messages and warnings) via electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN
