Location 

The yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration is located in the footwell of the vehicle on the left.

Task 

The yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration measures the turn rate around the vertical axis.

The integrated lateral acceleration sensor (AY sensor) measures the lateral acceleration.

The integrated longitudinal acceleration sensor (Ax sensor) detects longitudinal inclination.

The signals are read in by the Electronic Stability Program control unit (N30/4) via dynamics CAN (CAN H).

Function 

The sensors for turn rate and lateral and longitudinal acceleration are combined in the yaw rate sensor for lateral and longitudinal acceleration. The movement of the vehicle causes the vibrating masses to vibrate horizontally in opposite directions. If due to a rotary motion of the vehicle (e.g. skidding) a rotary motion interferes with the linear movement, a force (Coriolis force) acts on the vibrating mass.

The electronic analysis system calculates the corresponding vehicle behavior from the changes in the vibration states. The seismic body is moved along its axis due to external accelerations and evaluated with a differential capacitor.
