Upper A-Pillar Reinforcement Partial Removal - Ar63.20-P-1116-01S

The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.1 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Remove screws from outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) (area A).
- Drill out blind rivets in outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) with Ø 6 mm (area B).
- Expose spot welds on outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) and cut out (area C).
- Heat outer A-pillar reinforcement (1) in cross-hatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove outer A-pillar reinforcement (1).
- Mark separating point on inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area D).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
d = approx. 230 mm
- Expose weld seam on inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area E).
- Expose laser seams on inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) and cut (area F).
- Drill out self-piercing rivets in inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) with Ø 6 mm (area K).
- Heat inner A-pillar reinforcement (2) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove inner A-pillar reinforcement (2).
- Grind remnants of the laser and weld seams down flat (area G).
- Remove adhesive residues from foam part (area L).
Damaged foam part must be replaced (area L).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas (areas G, H, J).
Grind mating surface on the inside down to bare metal (area H).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas G, H, J).
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
