Rear Fender Complete Removal - Ar63.50-P-1401-01SZ

Model 223.9 

The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.9 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

1. Mark the separating points on the rear fender (1) (areas A, B and C).

   Mark separating point along the Y markings (areas A, B).

   To replace the C-pillar, mark separating point at approx. 60 mm above the Y-markings (area A).

2. Separate the separating points on the rear fender (1) (areas A, B and C).

   Do not make the cuts too deep.

   Otherwise the component parts below can be damaged and weakened.

3. Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area D).

   The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).

4. Press out self-piercing rivets at rear fender (1) using rivet press tool (areas M).
5. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas E and F).
6. Cut off spot welds at rear fender (1) (areas E and F).

7. Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas G).
8. Cut off spot welds on rear fender (1) (areas G).

   Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

9. Drill through clinch connections at rear fender (1) with ø 6 mm (areas H).
10. Press out self-pierce rivets at rear fender (1) using rivet press tool (areas J).

11. Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.

    Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

12. Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.

    Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

13. Remove rear fender (1).

14. Remove residual adhesive material (area L).

    The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm. Always remove loose adhesive.

15. Repair bare spots with primer stick (area L).
16. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.

    Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on both sides (areas K).

    Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

17. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
