The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.1 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
The graphics show the vehicle from the mechanic's perspective. At the same time, this perspective also prescribes the direction in which the rivets must be set.
- Install crossmember under the rear seat (1), fit, and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A).
- Drill rivet holes in crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas B).
- Drill rivet holes in crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.7 mm through existing holes in body (area C).
- Countersink rivet holes in crossmember under rear seat (1) (area C).
- Remove crossmember under the rear seat (1).
- Deburr rivet holes in the crossmember under the rear seat (1) and in the body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.

- Install crossmember under the rear seat (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.3x12.5 rivets (areas Y1 ).
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas Y2 ).
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x14.5 (area Y3 ).
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.4x17.7 rivets (areas Y5 ).
- Screw in screw (2).
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with rivets Ø 6.5x12.5 (areas Y2 ).
- Rivet crossmember under rear seat (1) with Ø 6.3x14.5 countersunk-head rivets (area Z1 ).
- Screw in screws (3).
