Suspension Strut Tower Removal - Ar62.20-P-1232-01S

Model 223.0/1/9 

IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle for model 223.1 and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Expose self-piercing rivets on the suspension strut tower (1) and drill out with Ø 6 mm (areas A, B, C).
  2. Expose weld seams on suspension strut tower (1), rear mounting support (2) and front mounting support (3) and cut (areas D).

  3. Expose weld seams on rear mounting support (2) and front mounting support (3) and cut (areas E).

  4. Heat suspension strut tower (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched area is bonded.

  5. Remove suspension strut tower (1) with rear mounting support and front mounting support.
  6. Grind weld seam residues down flat in cross-hatched areas (areas F).
  7. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas (areas F, G).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  8. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.

  9. Grind weld seam residues down flat in cross-hatched areas (areas J).
  10. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas (areas H, J).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.

  11. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
