View of fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11)
Location
The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4) is integrated in the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) electric controller unit (N15/11) which is located at the bottom in the automatic transmission in the oil pan.
Task
The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4) with its own independent diagnostic system determines the current operating condition of the vehicle and controls all the gear change sequences, taking shift comfort and the driving situation into consideration, as well as the engagement of gear ranges P, R, N, D and the operating time or rotational speed of the electric auxiliary oil pump (M42).
Flash programming
The transmission control system in the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4) is flashable, i.e. the complete software in the control unit can be replaced (newly installed). The software required to program the control units is stored on the Xentry diagnostics update DVD.
CAN bus
The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4) is connected to the CAN network of the vehicle via the drive train CAN (CAN C) and exchanges data with other control units.
Input and output signals
The fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4) evaluates the following input signals and outputs the corresponding output signals:
Reading in of signals
These input factors are read in via the following connections:
- Direct line
- Drive train CAN (CAN C)
Direct line
- Circuit 31
- Terminal 15
- Turbine wheel rpm sensor (N15/11n1)
- Rpm sensor for internal input speed (N15/11n2)
- Output shaft rpm sensor (N15/11n3)
- Selection range sensor (N15/11s1)
- Transmission oil temperature sensor (N15/11s2) (integrated in fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4))
Drive train CAN
Signals from:
- Intelligent servo module (ISM) for DIRECT SELECT control unit (A80)
- CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651)
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274)
- Automatic transmission fluid auxiliary oil pump control unit (N89)
Evaluation of input factors
The read-in input factors are evaluated by the fully integrated transmission control (VGS) control unit (N15/11n4).
Actuation of components
The actuation of the components takes place via the following connections:
Direct line
- Working pressure control solenoid valve (N15/11y1)
- K1 clutch control solenoid valve (N15/11y2)
- K2 clutch control solenoid valve (N15/11y3)
- K3 clutch control solenoid valve (N15/11y4)
- B1 multidisk brake control solenoid valve (N15/11y5)
- B2 multidisk brake control solenoid valve (N15/11y6)
- B3 multidisk brake control solenoid valve (N15/11y7)
- Torque converter lockup clutch control solenoid valve (N15/11y8)
Drive train CAN
Signals from:
- Intelligent servo module (ISM) for DIRECT SELECT control unit (A80)
- CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651)
- ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274)
- Automatic transmission fluid auxiliary oil pump control unit (N89)
The gateway for user interface CAN control unit (N93/4) (only model 447.8), the CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651) or ME-SFI control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274), the electronic ignition lock (EIS) control unit (N73) and the radio (Audio/COMAND) (N87/6) (only model 447.8) are interfaces (gateways) for the exchange of function-relevant data of the control units which are connected to the various CAN bus systems.
