Overview

General 

The starting-off aid can prevent collisions with obstacles in the direction of travel or minimize their effects when starting off. This can easily happen if the accelerator and brake pedal are mixed up or if the wrong direction of travel is assumed. The starting-off aid is controlled using the multimedia system. On vehicles with manual transmission, start-off assistance is not available.

Function requirements 

• Engine running or drivetrain operational.
• Parking Assist is switched on and the maneuvering assistant function is activated in the multimedia system.
• No trailer operation (vehicles with trailer hitch).
• No incline detected.

Function 

If, when starting off (drive range change to "R" or "D"), an obstacle is detected within an area of approx. 1 m, the speed is limited to approx. 2 km/h. This helps to minimize the consequences of a potential collision. When this process is active, it is indicated by a symbol in the central display.

Functional restrictions: 

• On inclines and when driving with a trailer (vehicles with trailer hitch)
• If the sensors are very dirty
• In case of insufficient detection when parking at an angle (limited by position of sensors)
• When covered up by other vehicles
