Parameterizable special module control unit, design and function

The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) forms the interface between the vehicle and the bodybuilder manufacturer electronics.

Thanks to the bodybuilder manufacturer electronics, vehicle status can be read and vehicle functions controlled (e.g. the central locking system) by means of the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) via the Controller Area Network (CAN).

For this purpose, there are digital and analog inputs and outputs.

The discrete multifunction outputs 01 to 05, 08 to 14 and 16 to 20 can also be used as inputs.

The configuration can be adjusted by means of diagnosis.

The peripheral devices CAN (1) is available as an additional interface for complex add-on equipment that require more inputs or outputs. A multitude of vehicle signals are transmitted on this. In addition there are some "free messages" which can be freely assigned with any content.

The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) can thus forward information, which it receives as CAN messages, to outputs or the peripheral devices CAN (1). In exactly the same way, the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) can forward inputs or information from the peripheral devices CAN (1) to the interior CAN (CAN B).

Beyond the interfaces, the following base functions are also available in the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16), e.g.:

The type and direction of information and interfaces are parameterized with the aid of the diagnostic system. Only through this coding is the functionality of the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) established and adapted to the corresponding body.

For special equipment codes available ex factory, coding of the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) can be performed at the touch of a button via the standard coding menu. Coding via expert coding is required for all other adjustments.

Signal processing time and signal routing

The signal processing time in the parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) must not exceed 50 ms.

The signal processing time is, for example, the time between the activation of an input and the reaction at an output.

In the case of the signal routing latency time, the cycle time of the message to be routed must also be added.

Actuations of the supply outputs multifunction output 01 to 04 are not included in this latency time request.

A reaction time of up to 800 ms is permissible for actuation of these supply outputs.

Operating safety

The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) must not impair the performance and operational safety of the vehicle, regardless of whether the PSM is in a valid or invalid operating status.

The parameterizable special module (PSM) control unit (N26/16) does not therefore contain any safety-relevant functions.
