Overview
This document contains information on the location, functions and variants of the telephone control unit.
General
The telephone control unit provides various telephony functions and enables telephony via the telephone antennas of the vehicle. The telephone control unit has the following operating modes:
- Via a SIM card in the SIM card reader
- Via a SIM card in the SIM card reader in combination with registration of a specific mobile phone in the multimedia system control
- Using the SIM Access Profile (SAP) via the SIM card of a connected mobile phone
The telephone control unit is connected to the vehicle's network architecture.
Depending on the model designation, the telephone control unit can be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot. In this case, a selection is made in the multimedia system as to whether the Wi-Fi hotspot of the telephone control unit or the Wi-Fi hotspot of the multimedia system control is to be used.
Location
With integrated SIM card reader, the telephone control unit is located in the glove compartment.

Functions
The telephone control unit performs the following tasks:
- Connection to the mobile telephone network via the vehicle's external antennas
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® communication with the multimedia system control
- Bluetooth® communication (SAP) with the mobile phone (depending on the operating mode)
- Network communication with the mobile phone cradle, for controlling the compensator (depending on the equipment)
- Wi-Fi hotspot (depending on the model designation)
The telephone control unit uses Wi-Fi for internet functions. Bluetooth® is used for telephony.
Variants
The telephone control unit is used in the following variants:
- Integrated SIM card reader, integrated Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® antenna, no hotspot function
- Integrated SIM card reader, integrated Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® antenna and hotspot function
