General 

The sound system control unit (N40/20) is located under the left front seat.

Function 

The sound system control unit (N40/20) has the following tasks:

Receive signals 

The sound system control unit (N40/20) receives the following signals:

• Power supply via circuit 30 and circuit 31
• Mute function signal from HERMES control unit (N112/9) (with code JH3 (Communication module (LTE) for digital services))
• Audio parameters via MOST from radio (Audio/COMAND) (e.g. volume and tone settings)
• Audio signals via Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) from head unit (A26/17)

Decoding, supporting and amplifying signals 

• Decoding of copy-protected audio signals based on Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology
• Supporting surround sound
• Supporting stereo entertainment channels and announcement channels (e.g. for voice output of navigation announcement, etc.)
• Amplifying decoded audio signals
• Left rear portal surround speaker (H23/80)

Transmitting signals 

The sound system control unit (N40/20) transmits electrical signals to the following component parts for audio output:

• Left front door bass/mid-range speaker (H4/1)
• Right front door bass/mid-range speaker (H4/2)
• Bass speaker (H4/29)
• Left front tweeter (H23/1)
• Right front tweeter (H23/2)
• Left rear tweeter (H23/11)

• Left rear woofer/mid-range speaker (H23/15)
• Right rear woofer/mid-range speaker (H23/16)
• Left center cockpit center fill speaker (H23/71)
• Left rear portal surround speaker (H23/80)
• Right rear portal surround speaker (H23/81)
• Left sliding door high-range surround speaker (H23/82)
• Left sliding door mid-range surround speaker (H23/83)
• Right sliding door high-range surround speaker (H23/84)
