General
The multifunction steering wheel is a component of the vehicle's steering It is used primarily to change the direction of the vehicle.
Function
Various controls are located on the multifunction steering wheel with which a variety of functions can be operated.
A steering wheel electronics system is integrated into the multifunction steering wheel This is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle The steering wheel electronics digitalizes the control signals from the multifunction steering wheel controls and provides them to other vehicle systems
On vehicles equipped with a steering wheel heater the steering wheel rim can be heated.

Operation of the on-board computer or the multimedia system through the finger navigation pads is indicated acoustically.
Steering wheel gearshift buttons
The purpose of the steering wheel shift buttons is model-dependent:
On combustion engine vehicles, the steering wheel downshift button (25) shifts the vehicle to a lower gear and the steering wheel upshift button (26) shifts the vehicle to a higher gear.
On electric vehicles, recuperation levels are selected using the steering wheel downshift button (25) and the steering wheel upshift button (26).
