Overview 

This document contains information on the function requirements and the function of Car-to-X-Communication.

General 

Car-to-X-Communication enables wireless information exchange between vehicles but also between vehicles and the transport infrastructure Car-to-X-Communication makes it possible to share information regarding dangerous situations that a vehicle has detected in road traffic with all  other users of Car-to-X-Communication.

As with Live Traffic Information, messages distributed via Car-to-X-Communication are displayed in the navigation map in the multimedia system. When approaching a hazardous area, Car-to-X-Communication warns the driver either visually or acoustically depending on the type of message. The data exchange takes place via the telematics services control unit.

Function requirements

The multimedia system recognizes hazardous situations automatically and reports these together with position information to Mercedes-Benz.

For Car-to-X-Communication the multimedia system evaluates the following information in the vehicle to detect hazardous situations:

The driver also has the option to manually distribute a message about a general hazard via the multimedia system.

Mercedes-Benz checks the messages received for plausibility. All vehicles participating in Car-to-X-Communication regularly report their position and then receive messages relevant to their surroundings.

The data are immediately pseudonymized by Mercedes-Benz. The vehicle data are deleted after a reasonable period of time (several weeks) and are not permanently stored.

IMPORTANT Data that are used for identification are replaced during the pseudonymization. This protects your identity against unauthorized third-party access.

The multimedia system displays e.g. the following warnings in the navigation map using corresponding symbols:

Information on moving construction sites comes from an external provider.

When approaching a hazardous area, warnings are issued via the voice output from a vehicle speed of at least 60 km/h. There are no warnings via voice output for weather hazards.
