The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on sidewall paneling (1) (area A).
- Cut separating point on sidewall paneling (1) (area A).
Transfer separation point from vehicle.
- Grind mating surface on side wall paneling section (2) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
Do not coat bonding surface with zinc dust paint (area B). Otherwise, there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (area B).
- Grind mating surface on side wall paneling section (2) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
Do not coat bonding surface (area C) with zinc dust paint. Otherwise, there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area C).
- Grind mating surfaces on lock striker reinforcement (3) and reinforcement (4) down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
Do not coat bonding surface (area D) with zinc dust paint. Otherwise, there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area D).
- Apply sealant to reinforcement (4).
Do not coat bonding surface (area D) with sealant. Otherwise, there may be adhesion problems.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to the reinforcement (4) (area D).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area D). Refer to the manufacturer's information for the curing and working times of 2-component adhesive.
- Install lock striker reinforcement (3) and reinforcement (4) in side wall paneling section (2), fit and fix in place.
- Lock striker reinforcement (3) and reinforcement (4)
(areas E and F).
- Clean weld joints.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flange (areas E and F).
