The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on side wall paneling (1) and cut (area A).
- Punch holes for MAG welding on side wall paneling (1) (area B).
- Grind down mating surfaces to bare metal on sidewall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas and around the holes (areas B).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas C and D).
Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas C and D).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on sidewall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surface (area E) with zinc dust paint. Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area E).
- Grind mating surfaces at lock striker reinforcement (2) and reinforcement (3) down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surface (area F) with zinc dust paint. Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area F).
- Apply sealant to reinforcement (3).
- Apply 2-component adhesive to reinforcement (3) (area F).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area F). Refer to the manufacturer's information for the curing and working times of 2-component adhesive.
- Install lock striker reinforcement (2) and reinforcement (3) in side wall paneling (1), fit and fix in place.
- Lock striker reinforcement (2) and reinforcement (3)
(areas G and H).
- Clean weld joints.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flange (areas G and H).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on rear sidewall paneling bottom section (4) in crosshatched areas and around the holes.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
