The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark connecting points on sidewall paneling (1) and cut (are A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot weld and cut out (area C).
- Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas D to I).
Cut out spot welds (arrows) through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot weld on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (area J).
- Expose spot weld and drill out (area K).
- Heat sidewall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove damaged side wall paneling (1).
- Grind down mating surfaces in crosshatched areas and around the holes (area L) to bare metal.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas M and N).
Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas M and N).
- Grind areas around holes down to bare metal (areas O and P).
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
