IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

  1. Mark separating point on side wall paneling (1) and cut (area A).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

  2. Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas B, D up to G).

    IMPORTANT Cut out spot welds (arrows) through two panel thicknesses.

  3. Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas I and J).
  4. Expose spot weld and drill out (area K).

  5. Expose spot welds on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and cut out (areas L to O).
  6. Expose MAG spot welds on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and cut out (area Q).
  7. Cut inert gas welds on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4 (area P).
  8. Heat sidewall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded.

  9. Remove damaged side wall paneling (1).

  10. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in crosshatched areas and around hole (area T).

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  11. Remove shavings and drill chips.
  12. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas R and S).

    Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas R and S).

  13. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in crosshatched areas and around hole (area U).

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  14. Remove shavings and drill chips.
  15. Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
