The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be accomplished analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on side wall paneling (1) and cut (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas B to G).
Cut out spot welds (arrows) through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot weld and drill through (area H).
- Expose spot welds on side wall paneling (1) and cut out (areas I and J).
- Expose spot welds on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and cut out (areas K to M).
- Expose MAG spot welds on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) and cut out (area O).
- Separate inert gas weld on rear side wall paneling bottom section (4) (area N).
- Heat sidewall paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.
Crosshatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove damaged side wall paneling (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas P and Q).
Otherwise there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces (areas P and Q).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in crosshatched areas and around holes (areas R and S).
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
