The next steps are shown on the right side of the vehicle for model 447.703 and must be similarly performed on the left side of the vehicle for the other body lengths or in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on C-pillar (1) (area A).
Observe dimension (A).
- Separate at separating point on C-pillar (1) (area A).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on C-pillar (1) (areas B to I).
- Cut off spot welds on C-pillar (1) (areas B to I).
- Heat C-pillar (1) in crosshatched areas (areas J and K).
Crosshatched areas are bonded.
- Remove damaged C-pillar (1).
- Expose spot welds on inner side wall (2) and outer rear wheel well (3) (areas L to O).
- Cut off spot welds on inner side wall (2) and outer rear wheel well (3) through two panel thicknesses (area N).
- Cut off spot welds on inner side wall (2) and outer rear wheel well (3) (areas L, M, and O).
Cut out spot weld (arrow) through two panel thicknesses.
- Mark separating points on inner side wall (2) (areas P and Q).
Observe dimension (b).
- Separate at separating points on inner side wall (2) (areas P and Q).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
- Expose spot welds on inner side wall (2), outer rear wheel well (3), rear reinforcement (5), and front reinforcement (6) (areas R to U).
- Cut off spot welds on inner side wall (2), outer rear wheel well (3), rear reinforcement (5), and front reinforcement (6) (areas R to U).
Cut out spot welds (arrows) through two panel thicknesses.
- Remove damaged inner side wall (2), outer rear wheel well (3), rear reinforcement (5), and front reinforcement (6).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area V).
Otherwise, there may be adhesion problems.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surface (area V).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind spot weld flanges down to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove shavings and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges.
