REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmission range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove cover cap in door handle recess and unscrew screw (1).    
3 Remove retaining clips (2).    
4.1 Unclip armrest trim (3) starting from rear (arrow A) and front (arrow B) toward center and remove. Model 447.8, 448.8

4.2 Unclip armrest trim (3) starting from front (arrow B), unhook from armrest at rear (arrow A), and remove. Model 447.6/7, 448.7

5 Remove bolts (4).    
6 Unclip door trim (5) in area of retaining clips (10) and remove upward until cable (7) is accessible. INSTALLATION NOTES Always replace all retaining clips (10). Otherwise it is not ensured that the door panel (5) is seated permanently on the front door.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that shaft sealing strip is seated correctly.

7 Unhook cable (7) from internal operation and door handle (8).    
8 Disconnect electrical connectors (9) at front door control unit. IMPORTANT The number of electrical connectors (9) varies depending on the vehicle equipment. Electrical connectors (9) are coded and colored.  
9 Remove door trim (5).    
10 Remove upper impact absorber (6). Model 447, 448 with code SH1 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, driver)
Model 447, 448 with code SH2 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, front passenger)
If installed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The upper impact absorber (6) is an eliminated part and is no longer required.
If upper impact absorber (6) is removed:

Document eliminated upper impact absorber (6) in Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc) and erase "VPD-Ident" 11249 or 11250.
 
INSPECT Check     
11 Check installation position of grommet (11). Model 447, 448 with code SH1 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, driver)
Model 447, 448 with code SH2 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, front passenger)
If grommet (11) is not aligned as shown:

Turn grommet (11) in direction of arrow (arrow C) so that electrical wiring harness (12) runs behind lower impact absorber (14) as shown (arrow D).
 
12 Ensure that retaining rings (13) are seated correctly on lower impact absorber (14). Model 447, 448 with code SH1 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, driver)
Model 447, 448 with code SH2 (Thorax/pelvis side-impact airbag, front passenger)
If retaining rings (13) are not inserted up to end stop:

Press on retaining rings (13) completely using suitable tool.
NOTES Lower impact absorber (14) must make contact with the door module (15) without play and gaps. Otherwise the electrical wiring harness (12) between the lower impact absorber (14) and door module (15) can slip and prevent correct seat of the lower impact absorber (14).
 
13 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
14 Check electrical component parts and front door lock for proper operation.
