General
The electrical sliding door system controls opening and closing of the corresponding electrical sliding door.
Function requirements
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- Right sliding door closing assist actuator/left sliding door closing assist actuator in rest position (for opening procedure)
- Sliding door in completely closed position (for opening procedure)
- Right sliding door closing assist actuator/left sliding door closing assist actuator in rest position (for closing procedure)
- Right electric sliding door central locking system actuator/left electric sliding door central locking system actuator in rest position (for closing procedure)
- Rotary tumbler open (for closing procedure)
- Sliding door open (for closing procedure)
- Corresponding electric sliding door closed (for child safety lock)
Function
The electric sliding door system can be operated using various switches and buttons.
The electric sliding door function comprises the following partial functions:
- Opening procedure
- Closing procedure

- Lock while driving
Opening procedure
When a valid request to open the sliding door is recognized, the opening assist motor in the relevant electric sliding door central locking system actuator raises the relevant locking pawl so that the rotary tumbler can open. Then the central locking actuator moves back to the rest position under time or event control. The corresponding sliding door closing assist actuator remains the rest position.
Closing procedure
The electric sliding door moves to the first catch on the lock. When the central locking main lock switch with closing assist for the respective electric sliding door reports this position, the respective sliding door closing assist actuator is activated and the respective drive unit is deactivated. The sliding door closing assist actuator pulls the rotary tumbler into the main catch until the lock pawl arrests. Then the sliding door closing assist actuator returns to the rest position.
Function sequence for opening and closing electric sliding door
When the respective door handle actuation switch, electric sliding door, sliding door button or electric sliding door switch (external operation) is actuated, it transmits a signal to the respective sliding door control unit. The sliding door control unit then directly actuates the electric sliding door drive. The drive unit moves the sliding door with cables.
If the button on the transmitter key for opening the electric sliding door is pressed for longer than 0.5 s, the transmitter key transmits a signal to the antenna. This transmits the signal via a direct line via the antenna amplifier to the electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS). The electronic ignition lock control unit (EIS) then transmits a request to the sliding door control unit via CAN.
Function sequence - child safety lock
The child safety lock is activated or deactivated over the relay lever in the electrical sliding doors. The child safety lock deactivates the opening function of the corresponding door handle actuation switch and the sliding door button in the B-pillar.
Play protection (overheating protection)
If multiple contradictory signals are received in rapid sequence (10 signals in around 60 s), the electric sliding door is stopped. Normal operation will be possible again after around 30 s.
Function sequence for reversing
The front edge sliding door automatic reversing function detects obstacles and initiates a reversal of the direction of movement. Indirect blockage detection by the respective rotational speed sensor is also available. It reacts when the speed is changed abruptly in the opening or closing direction.
When an obstacle is recognized, the front edge sliding door automatic reversing function or respective rotational speed sensor transmits a direct signal to the respective sliding door control unit. It starts a reversing operation by directly actuating the electric sliding door drive. In the case of manually closing or opening via a permanent actuation of the respective button and a normalized electric sliding door, the indirect blockage detection with higher threshold values becomes active.
Lock while driving
From a vehicle speed ≥ 5 km/h, the opening and reversing function is disabled.
The sliding door control unit receives the speed signal via CAN.
Closing the electric sliding doors is possible any time while driving.
